Born Under a Lucky Star (福星高照) is a painted pottery 彩陶, which was hand made by Liping Dai. Height 50.5 cm, width 21 cm and length 39 cm. This painted pottery is not only high quality but also meaningful and artistic. The artist, Mr Dai painted a few lucky stars around the moon, 5 round Chinese characters ” 福 ” ( Fu ) and three flying bats (蝙蝠 bian fu)around a man, which means ” 5 blessings are coming ” (五福临门) . Wufu, Five Blessings (Chinese: 五福), is a concept that signifies a grouping of certain good fortunes and luck in Chinese culture.
《書·洪范》:”五福:一曰壽,二曰富,三曰康寧,四曰攸好德,五曰考终命。”
Referring to the episode of Hong Fan in the Book of Documents, the meaning of the five blessings are long life (壽), wealth (富), health(康寧), love of virtue (攸好德 yōu hào dé) and peaceful death (考終命) accordingly.
