Artist Statement
The learned Westernness and inherited Chineseness are two embraced sides of my life like a symbol of Taichi in which the two are not separate entities but are densely inter-dependent, inter-woven and inter-changeable. Having experienced cross-cultural shock, pain and hope, my works are the reflections and records of the searching of a cross-cultural artistic identity; the introspecting of an inter-cultural insight, investigation and contemplation; the fusion of Chinese and Australian painting, aesthetic and philosophical thinking; and the pursuing of a difficult pleasure – to rediscover/ find myself, the meaning of visual art, and to build a bridge through which Chinese and Australian painting may influence and benefit each other.
